Our Optometrists
Dr. Rica McRoy
Dr. Rica McRoy was born in Kheonjhar, India and immigrated to America as a toddler. Her name was given to her by her father, who took the last four letters of America, R-I-C-A, to help her remember the sacrifices that were made for her to live in this nation. She has lived in Huntsville since the mid 70’s and graduated from Grissom High School. Dr. McRoy’s undergraduate studies in Biology were at Birmingham Southern College and the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Her graduate work in microbiology was performed at UAH. She graduated summa cum laude from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. Dr. McRoy has been in private practice in Huntsville since 1996. She co-founded R City Eye Care with Dr. Coker in 2018 with a vision to change the world through a simple visit to the eye doctor. She and her husband Spike are blessed to have Rily, Parker, Sophie and Bradley as their children. Dr. McRoy is passionate about her life with Christ and wants others to know the joy and freedom that comes from knowing God. She serves on the board of Lincoln Village Ministry and Westminster Christian Academy.
Dr. Marie Letson
Dr. Marie Letson is a Huntsville native who graduated from The University of Alabama in Huntsville in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences and a Minor in Chemistry. While at UAH, she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from UAB School of Optometry in 1997 after completing her externship at the Fox Army Optometry Clinic at Redstone Arsenal. She is a past President of the North Alabama Optometric Society and a former member of the Junior League of Huntsville. She has practiced optometry in the Huntsville area for 25 years before joining R City Eye Care Madison in 2022. She and her husband Brent have two daughters. They enjoy watching their daughter Maya twirl for the Madison Academy Mustangs as Majorette Captain as well as attending Alabama football games to watch their daughter Carley play piccolo in the Million Dollar Band. She loves to see patients of all ages and believes helping people with their vision and eyecare needs is such a blessing!
Dr. Melanie Cox
Dr. Melanie Cox received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Alabama in 1993. She received her Doctor of Optometry degree from UAB School of Optometry in 1997. Dr. Cox has practiced optometry in the Huntsville/Madison area for twenty-five years and joined R City Eye Care in 2022. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, University of Alabama alumni association and UAB alumni association. Dr. Cox and her husband Nathan have three children. She enjoys the opportunity to build relationships with her patients through eye care.
Dr. Alana Coker
Dr. Alana Coker was born and raised in Huntsville, where she graduated from Grissom High School in 2007. She went on to complete her bachelor’s degree in 2011 at the University of Alabama during the beginning of Nick Saban’s Dynasty– Rolllllll tide! After completing her Doctor of Optometry at UAB School of Optometry, she moved back to Huntsville, knowing there was no other place she would rather settle with her husband, Matt. R City Eye Care was born in 2018 when Drs. McRoy and Coker joined forces with the goal of providing excellent, individualized eye care to “our city.” Dr. Coker truly loves primary care optometry and sees patients of all ages. Outside work, she enjoys trying new recipes and spending time with her fur children: Marley, a Yorkie, and Riley, an Anatolian Shepherd. She has also taken up gardening and loves decorating for holidays, especially Christmas (fun fact: the neighborhood kids call her house the North Pole!) During the summers, you can usually find her near a body of water, and in the cooler months, she likes spending quality time with friends and family around a campfire.
